Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you’ve had a great start to what I hope will be a great year.
I’ve got lots of exciting stuff planned this year, so I thought I’d get down a roster of what to expect from HarryTheGM throughout 2022.
This isn’t intended to be a list of promises I won’t fulfill, rather a sort of new year’s resolution for me to look back on throughout the year to remind me of what has excited me about starting this channel.
Firstly, I’m still working hard on Story Mode.
More than anything, I want to get this out to play testers and start a proper discussion about what works and what doesn’t so that we can continue to develop this into a robust and fun tool for GMs to use at all kinds of tables.
The whole goal of this website is geared towards making that happen, and to provide you with some insight into the journey towards it. I’m including my thought process, the experiences I have in my own games which inspire the development of Story Mode as well as experimental games and tools which are like practice for the main event. You can think of these as a musician warming up and practicing scales to make sure the music is as good as possible.
So that’s what’s next – one page games.
I intend to make as many of these as possible. They will be tabletop roleplaying games, board games, dice games, discussion exercises. Really, I’m interested in pushing the boundaries on what a game even is, to find out what it means to create fun at a table and how we can use story prompts to inspire each other.
I’ve had a lot of fun making the first two – Ninja Party and Thirst. These are wildly different from each other in style, theme and genre and you can expect a lot more of this variance in future.
The next one is different again. It’s a strategy board game with a lovely element of random chance. It’s called ‘Skyfliers’ and I’ll share more about that later.
The next thing I’m excited to share here are settings which you could use to run your own TTRPG campaigns, or to take elements from to put into your existing games.
I’ve got plenty of ideas, but one main setting in the pipeline. I won’t share more about it now other than that it’s called ‘The Silent Isles’.
I’ve also got some very cool plans to weave this into Story Mode once the full game is complete.
Lastly, I’ve got a raft of tools, tips, tricks, items, monsters and adventures to publish!
Stuff I came up with on the fly in my own games; stuff I didn’t get to use because it’s too big to cram into my already complex campaign; stuff I’ve learned and want to share so that you don’t make the same mistakes I’ve made.
(Or do make them because they were awesome!)
These might be setting agnostic or for a particular system. Eventually I’ll be making a lot of content just for Story Mode!
Right now I’m slowly working on a little adventure for my own table to play at some point in Troika!, exploring the weirdness that the system allows. I’ll publish that once we’ve played through it.
So that’s it from me for now. Plenty to look forward to and get excited about this year.
Come and tell me what your gaming plans are this year over on twitter, let’s inspire each other – @HarryTheGM.
Peace Harry
